5800So for the last few days I came across two of my friend’s Nokia own Touch screen phone 5800 running on the Symbian Series 60 5th edition. Curios to see how Nokia’s touch screen phone will be and seeing a Nokia touchscreen phone a long time after 7710. Here are some of my initial thoughts on the phone.

  • One seeing the phone its quite OK in its size and weight, but the fit and finish doesn’t reflect of a high end phone. Still at 20,500 rs (420$) its comparatively cheaper than Iphone / Omnia / HTC Touch 3G
  • The screen resolution of 640 x 360 pixels is nice and bright to view at
  • The touch screen response is quite good but still sometimes it didn’t quite respond to my touch. The touch swipes could have been better when viewing pictures and in some areas like handwriting, scrolling and playing games the stylus is the better option
  • The User Interface is plain and does the job kind of stuff with no fancy icons & effects. But the speed of the phone is quite good
  • The 3.2 MP camera was good but didn’t check out its full range of snaps and video shooting features
  • The onscreen QWERTY keypad was nice and easy to use
  • The screen orientation feature was quite smooth is changing over and sometimes very sensitive (irking me a bit)
  • Music quality was good but surprisingly not loud as other Nokia phones. The media player was same as that of other symbian series 60 phones
  • Applications were quite sparse with no document viewer, dictionary, pdf viewer and there were only two games but their graphics were quite nice.
  • The box had the usual stuff along with 8 GB micro SD card, TV out cable, additional stylus and Sennheisser headphones (FREE)

I might add some of my thoughts about 5800 much later when I get to use it more. As always your views / comments are always welcome.
