I’ve written about budget music phones from Sony Ericsson W200i to Nokia 5130 Xpress Music. And when my cousin wanted my opinion on choosing a mobile for 5000/- bux, I suggested him a Nokia 5130 or 2700 classic. But one of his main requirements was a loud sounding speaker and he was impressed by LG GM 200’s woofer speakers. So when he bought it for INR. 5,500/- (115$) I gave it a test run.
- The phone is ok to look at and it feels light weight at 85 grams and its definitely plasticky.
- The screen is bright and measures 2″ with a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels (initially i assumed as 240 x 320)
- The keypad is rubbery and large and its quite good to type.
- The music being its USP, i tried playing some music via its woofer it was loud but i preferred hearing it via my sony headphones because of its 3.5 mm audio jack
- But the music player software was very sparse with only playlist and all tracks option but it was able to play in the background
- I didn’t try the FM because FM reception is poor but it should be able to play FM without the headphones
- The video player was able to play a 320 x 240 3gp file from my SE K660i but it was slightly blurry
- The user interface was quite good looking and easy to use with sometimes a small lag when opening some applications
- The usual sms / mms / email / web browser / organizer functions were all there. The one thing that i was surprised to see was the scheduled sms sending feature which I thought was a nice addition
- The salesman was very particular about a ringtone creating facility from the the mp3 file in the phone itself without any pc intervention after trying to cut out a potion of a mp3 i was left frustrated because i wasn’t able to cut the exact potion i wanted
- It had a 2 MP camera which was Ok and the connectvity options were USB, bluetooth and GPRS / EDGE
According to me is straight choice between Nokia 5130 or GM 200, and it will depend on your personal preferences as there are only slight difference between the two.
