Many of you might have read my thread on ‘Making my phone smarter‘, now here is another great Java based app called “KD Player” for managing and playing music on your phone. For people who dont have advanced music players like Walkman V3.0 (present in W910,W580) or Xpress Music Player (in Nokia 5310,5610) in their mobile phones , KD player is a excellent alternative to manage music collection by artists, albums, support for album arts, visualization and it can even be minimized to play in the background. Another cool thing about this is the ability to skin the player to completely change its look and even its orientation to landscape.

Various versions of KD Player are available here.

iPod TouchRecently I came across a iPod , to be exact a iPOD TOUCH. To make one thing clear i haven’t used a iPod Nano or a iPod classic before. So when my friend came to me to transfer songs from his laptop to his Touch, I got to see whats so touchy about the ‘Touch’. For regular visitor of my Techie CockTail you would have read my IPhone in India.

So a iPod Touch is a iPhone minus Phone & Camera. But its somewhat slimmer than a iPhone. After some initial teething problems, I downloaded iTunes and got it to sync with iPod.

Music Quality: Good, with various EQ settings to enhance according to the music. Even though it would have cost almost 300$ (its a 8GB version, I cant comprehend why it isn’t bundled with a ordinary earphones).

Video Quality: The screen quality as it resembles in Iphone is amazing to watch the videos, pictures.

The in-built Safari browser is very good to use it in a Wi-Fi spot. Still whether it can use the Wi-Fi connection to wirelessly stream music from other devices in the network , I don’t know (if anyone has tried this please post your comment).

As I have said in my iPhone post, I don’t use iTunes and I dont how many people use them in India to buy music or keep a properly organised album collection in their PC. Since it doesn’t allow Plug - Copy to transfer songs , videos, pictures its somewhat a hassle for people like me.And still FM is not found in a iPod. And I couldn’t even find games, I thought other iPod’s had games in it :-?

I know I have raised lots of questions, anyone can post your comments to clarify my queries your contributions are always welcome :-)

LG KG195As i mentioned in my previous post on W200i , the LG KG-195 Dynamite is a worthy contender in this budget segment (it costs the same as W200i @ 4700/-). Some of its pluses compared to W200i are

  • TFT screen, much brighter & crisper compared to W200i
  • Bluetooth is available even with A2DP profile (i.e stereo bluetooth headphones for wireless music)
  • A flight mode where you can operate music, games etc whereas in W200i only music is accessible
  • A hot swap micro SD card , cheaper than W200i’s memory card micro M2
  • It allows you to record FM directly

But as always some of its minuses to W200i are,

  • User Interface not as refined and as easy as W200i
  • Customization like themes not as exciting as W200i
  • Java software , games support is a bit iffy
  • Address book sync support is a problem
