A interesting quote i came across in the “web” …….

In the part of this universe that we know there is great injustice, and often the good suffer, and often the wicked prosper, and one hardly knows which of those is the more annoying.

In the last two topics I’ve talked about accessing mails, news and chat from your mobilephones. To do these you first of all need a GPRS enabled phone and a provider who provides you with GPRS service. GPRS is short form for General Packet Radio Service which was the start of 2.5G in the mobile phone era. This was followed by EDGE (Enhanced GPRS) and now 3G technology. But in India, 3G technology will most probably arrive in the year 2007. Till then we have to make do with GPRS and EDGE in some areas. Not only does the handsets (depends on the model) can access internet through their browsers they can also be used as a modem for your desktop PC / Laptops. Here are some of the GPRS plans provided by some of the GSM operators for postpaid users in India,

1. AirTel (TamilNadu) - There are 3 plans available,

* 100 KB / Re. 1 - No monthly rental
* 100 MB / Rs. 399/- per month
* 1 GB / Rs. 599/- - per month

* Rs. 20/- per day for unlimited usage ( Prepaid)

2. Hutch (Chennai) - There are 3 plans available

* 10 KB / 5 Paisa - Rs. 199/- per month
* 500 MB / Rs. 499/- per month
* 1 GB / Rs. 699/- - per month

3. BSNL CellOne (TamilNadu)

* 5 MB / Rs. 49/- per month - Beyond free usage Re.0.01/per KB
* Unlimited - Rs.199/- per month

For each region / states the tariff plan may vary so please check with the custome care of your Service provider. CDMA users (Code Division Multiple Access) like Reliance, Tata Indicom have their own tariffs for accessing internet. Now providers like AirTel, Hutch provide Blackberry services and also Windows Mobile service. Please check out their websites for detailed information.
