From my previous post on a No-Frills Samsung B520 , today I am going to post my thoughts on Nokia’s enterprise offering E71. Before I got it in my hand, I thought it would be very wide and large but when I got it in my hand I was pleasantly suprised by its compact finish and stainless steel build and its solid finish. Its measurements of 114 x 57 x 10mm and weight of 127 grams is a testament to that.
The landscape oriented screen measuring 2.36 inches and featuring a 320 x 240 pixel 16 million color is nice and sharp to look at. The phone running in Nokia’s Series 60 V3.1 armed with 369 Mhz processor is quite snappy with only little lag. Even though the User Interface is quite plain jane to look at, it can be jazzed up with themes.
Its a long time I’ve used a QWERTY based phone, even though the keys were small it was quite easy to type with. The network reception and call quality was typical Nokia. And those who have used Series 60 phone will feel at home and newbies the interface is friendly enough so there wont be a steep learning curve.
Since its a “Enterprise phone”, features like E-Mail, Office document viewer, Organizer, Phone book, Calendar are all well made and ready to use including a plethora of connectivity options from quadband gsm, hsdpa, wireless lan, bluetooth and usb support. With support for both symbian and java softwares its extensible and ability to do various tasks.
And even though its a enterprise phone, its got a capable 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and a capable media player capable of playing music and videos. Unlike N series phone it has only a 2.5mm jack but still sound through speakers and headphone is good. Coupled with FM radio and a micro sd card slot its a good portable media player too.
Its price too is quite a bargain at 19,500/- rs (375 $) with a pouch, memory card ,usb cable and headset inside the box. The major gripe might be that it has no touch screen functionality.
