The 200$ phone range seems to be the hottest arena in mobile phones nowadays as manufacturer nowadays give customers from value for money to style conscious phones. But for people who are looking to be connected 24 x 7 on their mobile without breaking their bank account are also on the rise. This is where the today’s phone of discussion SonyEricsson K660i squarely lies. Built on the latest A200 software platform and one of the cheapest phones on this platform available today, lets see what it does good and not so good.

  • Phone’s looks and wieght is good , its not a head turner by any means but there are 4 color combinations to try
  • First & foremost the its phone functionality seems excellent with nice reception and sound quality coupled with a good battery life
  • The 2″ TFT screen with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels is a treat to look at. The A200 software is a marginal upgrade to previous generation of sony ericssonsĀ  with some minor User interface modifications but still easy and logical to work with.
  • A multi-detailed phonebook, calendar, tasks, notes will come in handy
  • One of the major upgrades in this A200 platform is the media player software. Its a joy to work with with support for landscape mode, album art etc.
  • Music quality was good but not loud and the videos were nice to view in the QVGA screen coupled with provided 1GB M2 card you have a capable multimedia device in your hand. And last but not least there is FM Radio with RDS.
  • Since it is supposed to be a connectivity warrior, it has Bluetooth, USB, GPRS/EDGE/3G & HSDPA. The netfront browser and email client will be a handy companion on the road.
  • But with all these it misses out on youtube videos and its inability to play flash files.
  • And another sore point is that the 2 mega pixel snapper is average in performance making it only handy for outdoor or well light shots because there is no LED light.
  • Even though the A200 platform was nice to work with the phone’s reaction to menu presses were always delayed by a second or more.

According to me its a nice phone for the professionals who are looking for a solid phone with basic multimedia and connectivity capabilities. But phones like Nokia 3120 classic(Rs. 7800/-) which is cheaper than K660i(Rs. 9000/-) is also a worthy competitor to be checked out.
